The Prestige

I could’ve sworn I had watched this film before but I can confirm I mustn’t have had because wow it was amazing. This was the second film from my 100 Movies Bucket List picked by my random number generator and it was available on Amazon Prime to watch.

The Prestige tells the story of two magicians; Alfred Borden (Christian Bale) and Robert Angier (Hugh Jackman), who once worked together under the supervision of Cutter (Michael Caine), however, when Borden contributes to the death of Angier’s wife Julia (Piper Perabo) a violent competition to be the best magician ensues.

Although the film is fictional, it has elements of real history in it which caused me to wonder whether it was based on a true story; for example, Tesla’s (David Bowie) experiments in his Colorado house, and references to other magicians at the time. It is honestly such a clever film I was just wondering what would happen next. And will Scarlet Johansson and Andy Serkis both featuring as supporting characters you can imagine how such a star studded cast played out. Especially with Christopher Nolan as director.

With a million twists and turns to keep you guessing I’d definitely recommend sitting down to enjoy the 2 hour spectacle which is the Prestige.
