Since Disney+ has launched and we’re in lock down in the UK. I thought what better way to use my spare time than to watch the Disney Classics (in order of course).
Snow White was my absolute favourite growing up. I ALWAYS wanted a Snow White dress but never got one; play the violins please. It’s almost a little bit sad when you watch it now because the quality of animation has progressed so far that’s feel like children of today won’t appreciate it. But then I remember that it was released in 1937 and every frame was hand painted. I mean that is quite an accomplishment!
If you don’t know the story, here it is. Snow White’s step mother is the Evil Queen, obsessed with being the most beautiful woman in the land. So, when her mirror tells her there is another more beautiful she sends her huntsman to kill Snow White. However, he is unable to do it. She runs away and takes refuge in a house full of small items of furniture. She soon discovers in the home of the seven dwarves who accept her into their life and everything is magical.
Of course it’s Disney so she also talks to the animals which is lovely. Unlike newer Disney Classics there isn’t a specific animal sidekick. But, personally, I feel like Dopey probably fills that role.
Overall, a lovely story of innocence and kindness. A little bit of what the world needs now in this crazy time if you ask me!
